In most countries, the state official licenses a Notary Public to authenticate legal documents, signatures or affidavits/statements of individuals under oath. In Thailand, the Lawyers Council grants particular attorneys the role of Notarial Services Attorney allowing them to perform authentication services as prescribed by the Lawyers Act.
Documents that are notarized are legally valid internationally. They can be used by banks, foreign authorities or the Embassy of your home country.
Authentication
Authentication is the official process of making a document or signature more credible and reliable. Authentication is essential for many types of documents, including employment applications, passport renewals, and visa applications. It also certifies that the person who signed a document did so under his or her true name. Authentication can also be used to verify the identity of a witness.
Currently, Thailand does not have an official system of notaries public. However, a number of Thai lawyers are able to serve as notaries. These are known as “notarial services attorneys”, and they are regulated by the Lawyer’s Council.
The notary services that we provide are often required by banks, embassies and other institutions to verify the authenticity of a document or signature. This can include proof of address, transcripts, power of attorney, or other legal documents. Authentication can also be required to courier a document abroad. Documents that require authentication are usually taken to the embassy for additional legalization.
Certification
Notarization is an official fraud-deterrent process by which a Notary Public or Notary Services Attorney certifies a document. It can be used for any type of document that requires witnessing signatures or administering oaths. It is an essential part of a legal document, such as affidavits or contracts, and is required for many international visa applications.
Notaries are licensed by the state to verify that a person is the signatory on a document and has the authority to do so. They can also certify that a document is authentic and true. However, they are not responsible for the content of the document.
Notaries are often required by companies, schools, government and private institutions to certify the authenticity of documents. This includes people who are traveling to foreign countries, where the notarized documents need to be further authenticated or legalized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand.
Legalization
Legalization is an important process for any document that needs to be recognized internationally. Documents like marriage, birth, and death certificates must be legally recognized by the embassy of the original country in order to be valid abroad. This is accomplished by having the document certified as a “true copy” with all proper stamps and signatures. Getting this done properly is imperative for the success of any international project in Thailand.

In addition, if you’re buying a property abroad, it’s usually necessary to get the purchase notarized. A notary verifies the signatures and affixes their seal to guarantee that the document is authentic.
